A WALK TO REMEMBER MADELYN “OUR BEAUTIFUL MOTHER”

My sister, Madelyn, passed away two years ago this month.  My niece, Shelly, sent the message below to friends and family that would like to celebrate Madelyn’s going home with a walk.  Unfortunately I cannot be there at this time but I will honor her in my post.

Madelyn was special.  No matter who she met, she always touched their lives in some way.  Her spirit was full  of love and laughter as well as discipline and strength.  She attended  “Cup Match” held annually in Bermuda faithfully and if you had the opportunity to share this experience with her, you would never forget it as long as you live.  The woman was definitely a “Somerset” fan, Red and Blue all the way.

I really miss my Big Sister and Bermuda will never be the same without her, for me and anyone who knew her.

Thanks Shelly for rmembering her in such a wonderful way.

Mother’s Day

Instead, I’ll give you all that’s mine to give…my hopes, my dreams, and my love – always my love. Happy Mother’s Day To My Queen

Although we celebrate our mothers everyday of our lives, we seem to do something a little more special when Mother’s Day rolls around. It is an honor to have your mother with you on her special day because there are so many sons and daughters whose mothers have passed on. Although she may have passed on it would be good to get together with your siblings and talk about “what momma did” and “what momma said”. It will truly bring you laughter and tears but in a good way. The look she gave you when you know you were doing something wrong, and please do not act up while she is talking with another adult. Remember if you got into trouble away from home, the neighbor five doors down became your mother when you were being bad and when you got home, the real mommy let you have it again. Too bad mothers are not like that today. The world would be a better place.

I just ran across an article recently that my play brother asked me to type for him years ago. It was from a worn and tattered newspaper clipping, CHERISH THE GIFT OF YOUR MOTHER, by Cindy Adams, a columnist with NY Post. I really didn’t want to type this article but I thought about the fact that he had lost his Mother and this meant a lot to him, so why can’t I take the time and do this for him. I still have my Mother.

The strangest thing happened right after I typed, printed, and stapled the pages together. I sat there, reread the article, and said should my Mom go before me, I want to read this for her because I understand what your mom meant. I couldn’t find the clipping from the newspaper. I then said OK. It was as if it vanished and I told myself I was supposed to type this. I had a real strange feeling come over me and I didn’t understand it. I searched and searched but could not see the clipping. I walked into the other room, came back, and said I have to go to the bathroom now. I then sat at my desk and turned slightly to the right and there it was. Folded neatly and tucked between some papers on my desk. I didn’t remember doing this at all. I guess the panic seemed as if I had lost something very close and dear to me.

Well this evening I walked into my front room and on this chair were some papers and this was on top. Jimmy passed away about three years ago. I guess he was just saying hello.

Anniversary

You are first on my mind each morning, last on my mind each night, and the best part of my dreams. I love you

The day you meet your best friend; your first kiss; first date; wedding; engagement; argument and any other occasion you want, can become an anniversary, the choice is yours. You have unlimited reasons to celebrate a special day in your life. Anniversary dates originated with the significance of another year that a couple has been married. The traditional and modern anniversary gifts starting with the first year you give a traditional gift of paper or a modern gift of clocks through the hundredth where the 10K diamond is modern and traditional. Whatever milestone is being celebrated, one year, twenty years, or even 73 years, you can do whatever you want for each marvelous milestone in a couple’s life.

For me celebrating each month with a small gift, card, dinner or anything else that comes to mind on the same day each month. Our first date was on the 30th so this day will always be very special to us, whether it is now or 20 years from now. Although our wedding anniversary is on the 24th, it just doesn’t seem as significant as our first date because that is when we both knew that we would spend the rest of our lives together and thus for us it became our official date. Don’t get me wrong, we do celebrate our wedding date as well.

I often read about couples celebrating 40-50-60 years and those who have been together for 73 years. It is amazing to realize that someone has been married to the same person for all my life and then some. That is truly understanding what marriage is all about. Of course you’re going to have ups and downs but whethering the storms and coming out on the sunny side is the test of time. I look forward to my many years to come.

Birthday

Frankly, I think you're just not Trying

Birthday cards are the best!  Everyone is scurrying around trying to find just the right card for you.  Sometimes you receive more than one card from the same person because they couldn’t make up their mind or they wanted to cover all bases – serious, funny and who knows what else. :)    Cards from your children, whether two-legged or four, says it all.   They talk about your age, lumps, bumps and bruises and if it is from someone who really knows you – look out!  It’s bad enough that the card provides its own punch, but then they have to scratch this word out and put in their own.  HA!HA!  They just can’t seem to leave well enough alone.

I have done some fun things in celebrating my birthdays. At 40 rented an entire club during happy hour just for my guests. There was food, music and a lot of fun had by all, including my parents. Of course when you reach the big 50 you have to celebrate and this I did. Instead of renting a hall and having it catered, I decided to have it at the local club where I worked. The place was soooo packed but everyone had a great time. My daughter came from Florida, my hubby (not at the time) was there but didn’t remember and all my friends and customers were there to help me celebrate a great event in my life. The food was prepared by my boss, auntie and friends and my favorite deejay provided non-stop music all night long. I am a diehard Dallas fan, so this was the year I received any and everything that said Dallas, including a Cowboy bar stool with a big star on it.

Another favorite birthday was the next year when I was dating my hubby and all I could remember him saying was “if you get drunk, I will leave you here.” Needless to say, when he left, so did I. LOL!!  Once again surrounded by friends, family and tons of birthday well wishes and cards.  My nieces enjoyed Johnny Walker Black until 3 in the morning.

Greeting Cards

Cards are sent, via postal or over the internet, every day of the year, whether it is a special occasion or just a simple note to say hello. Birthday cards remind you Card from Iraq every year that you are getting a year “younger.” Anniversary cards let you know how many milestones you have covered together. Sympathy cards are for the loss of loved ones or dear friends, and holiday cards are just that, for that particular holiday only. I think Valentine’s Day and Christmas are still leading the pack here. There are note cards, engagement cards, thank you card, retirement, bon voyage, and even divorce cards these days. Whatever the occasion, there is a card available for it. Let us not forget those cards that you create yourself. A card can also include a little song selected especially for you. When sending out cards we try to put a date inside so you will know when you received it.

I love receiving cards. You get a sense of how people really think of you. Sometimes it is very hard to put into words what you would like to say but can seem to find it in a card and it says it all. There is a huge variety and many selections of different type of cards today so you actually have to take Thanksgiving Cardthe time to select the right one for the person intended to receive it. The humorous cards are hilarious, no matter what the occasion, but you have to choose wisely.

I was going through a box of old things a few weeks ago and stumbled across a card I had received when I was 16 years old (that has been many moons ago) and I actually smiled at the content and added words from the sender. I am not sure I understood that card then, but if it meant what I understand today, it was truly from the heart. I shared my findings with one of their relatives and I am quite sure they passed this information on.

When you receive a card from a group of people, it is always enjoyable to read what each one has written. Some say the same thing and others become creative.

We also must remember everyone will not send a card for certain holidays because it has become too commercialized (Christmas – Valentines’ Day) and choose to send them on other holidays. There are actually 46 holidays celebrated in the US with November having 7 followed by February and April each with 6 and so on.
